~My
Approach~
Pleasure
in the job puts perfection in the work.
-Aristotle (384-322 BC)
Using a strength-based approach, I will work to help
you release old and ineffective behavior patterns and
embrace change. Just as all living things must renew
themselves, individuals must renew their energies
with different and effective ways of being.
I use a variety of techniques and concepts from
different angles of Psychology to create a plan that
works for you. Rather than working with a client from
a strict relational or philosophical point of view, I
select themes and techniques that will work best for
your personal style and treatment needs.
The techniques I use include:
•Goal-oriented exploration
•Roleplaying
•Symbolic play
•Sandtray (for children, teens, and adults)
•Relaxation techniques
•Visualization exercises
•Empowerment through self-affirmation
•Experiential awareness
~Your
Healing Process~
The
fates have given mankind a patient soul.
- Homer, The Iliad
My therapeutic style is informed by the following:
•Psychodynamic thought
•Existentialist theory
•Rogerian principles
•Goal-guided theories
•Narrative processes
You will be immersed in the profoundly satisfying
process of becoming your own change.
I will guide you to find untapped areas of
strength that promote change. |
~Group
Psychotherapy~
Groups are a great way to heal and be healed by the energy of others. They are especially
helpful for people who believe they are alone in their struggles and that few can relate to
them. I facilitate three different groups specifically structured for children, adolescents, and
adults:
Why is it so Hard to Make Friends? – A group for children ages 7 to 10 focusing on
improving social skills, and increasing empathy and reciprocity. Special focus on bullies and
how to cope with bullying behavior.
When No One Understands – A group for teens ages 12 to 15 focusing on peer difficulties,
including dealing with gossip and becoming a healthy individual. If applicable, eating
disorders can also be addressed, with the potential to become a separate group if there is
interest.
In One Ear and Out the Other; Life as a Parent – A group for single parents coping with
children having difficulty at school and/or inside the home, with a focus on effective
parenting strategies.
If any of these groups would be a good fit for your needs
and interests, please contact me,
and ask about the group you would like to join so that
you may be added onto a waiting list and called as soon
as a space is available.

~Outreach
and Public Speaking~
Learn more about healthy child development, coping with life transitions, and dealing with
divorce through a presentation tailored to your group's concerns. My presentation includes a
computer-aided slide show and a question and answer session. For
additional information
and to reserve a date for a presentation, please contact me.
~How Sessions Work~
Small
opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises. -Demosthenes (384-322 BC)
Each session is 50 minutes long, at least once a week. We can work on scheduling longer
sessions according to your treatment needs and preferences.
